When commissioned by Italian footwear company Superga to recreate their iconic canvas trainer in 2013, Orient produced the world’s largest shoe at 1.65m high, 2.2m wide and 6.27m long, earning it a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. To qualify for world record status, the shoe had to be an exact replica using the same materials as the original, so we set about sourcing the canvas and rubber, knit and tubing for the laces, metal rings for the eyelets and molding the exact dimpling on the sole. Our shoe of super proportions was then exhibited at the end of the pier in Harbour City, with invited guests partying around it. The PR it received was as big as the shoe.
